Republican Debate – Crowd boos American Soldier who happens to be Gay

Posted by on September 24, 2011

My entire life I grew up a christian man. I was taught to be tolerant towards other even with different lifestyles that people who are gay are loved by god.  I was taught that we should not judge people on earth as god is the only one who can judge sins. I am for civil rights for homosexuals. I believe that they are people and deserve the same treatment everyone gets. I believe that gay individuals do have the right to get a civil union, but those laws need to reflect the same protections that marriage gives. I am happy don’t ask and don’t tell was taken down. It was a travesty in American history that we discriminated against people based on sexual preferences.  Now what amazes me is a solider asks a question to a republican candidate regarding don’t ask and don’t tell. A few individuals within the crowd booed but what amazes me is that the republicans didn’t stop that from happening and give honor to the solider who is protecting our freedoms. Regardless of his sexual preference he is protecting the freedoms of the American people included myself and he deserves respect. He risks his life everyday for us and it appalls me the behavior of certain republicans. It reminds me when racists came out during the campaign of  Sarah Palin and John McCain. They brought out a crowd of individuals who did have no respect for anyone and it appalled me just like this event did.  I know it is not party lines because their are racists and homophobes in every party and all walks of life but we should learn to love and care for one another and be tolerant regardless of sex, race, creed, or sexual preference.
